Your First Visit

We are situated on the High Street, opposite Acorn Solicitors & Cog + Sprocket bicycle shop, and above Boots Opticians & Golden Cut Hairdressers. The clinic is on the first floor, up a wide flight of straight stairs, with a handrail. Please let us know in advance if you have any concerns regarding being able to access the clinic, as assistance is always available, when required.

The consultation

After recording a few basic personal details, the chiropractor will take a full case history to help them understand the nature of your presenting complaint.

Then, a thorough examination of the affected area will be performed, to determine the root cause of the symptoms. This examination assesses movement, to identify any functional issues with the muscles, joints and nerves, as well as your general health.

You may be required to wear a gown for the examination, to aid the examination process.

The report of findings

Following the consultation, your chiropractor will discuss the findings of the examination with you, and provide an explanation for your presenting symptoms, based on the examination results. This will be clearly explained in plain English, as it is important to us that the underlying reasons that are causing the symptoms are understood.

An initial treatment plan will then be discussed, outlining the best course of action, including both treatment in clinic, and supportive activities to be carried out at home (exercises, for example).

Treatment, x-rays and other advice

It is often appropriate to start treatment straight away, and your signed consent to do so will be requested, prior to starting. As well as treatment in clinic, specific supportive advice will also be given, for example: on how to modify your lifestyle so as not to aggravate your condition.

There are, however, times when the results of thephysical examination indicate that it is not appropriate to start treatment or give advice, at this stage. It may be that further investigation is required, and that an X-Ray or MRI scan may be needed, to support the chiropractor's diagnosis, or that your condition is not amenable to chiropractic treatment.

In these circumstances, a full explanation will be given as to why this is necessary, and the next steps outlined, and actioned immediately.
