This is neck pain that has been present for more than 12 weeks. It can occur as a result of many micro-traumas, for example, sitting incorrectly for a long period of time, or poor posture. It can also be caused by osteoarthritis, a progressive form of arthritis that occurs as a result of ‘wear and tear’.
Chronic neck pain of musculoskeletal origin is due to the joints of the lower spine becoming tight and restricted. This causes stiffness. The joints can be irritated as a result of this, and this can cause pain.
Neck pain is not normal and is often due to the joints not moving correctly.
